Vietnam deports Interpol Red Notice suspect to Kazakhstan
VOV.VN - Vietnamese police have deported a Kazakh man under an Interpol Red Notice over alleged embezzlement or misappropriation of assets.
The deportation of Nurlybekov Kairat, 47, was carried out directly at Cam Ranh International Airport, Khanh Hoa province, on February 26, in full compliance with Vietnamese law and relevant international regulations.
Authorities discovered the Kazakh fugitive during routine checks on foreign residents in Khanh Hoa. Kairat was found temporarily residing at an apartment in the Muong Thanh Vien Trieu hotel complex in Bac Nha Trang ward. Initial inspection revealed that he had provided false information in order to obtain a Vietnamese visa and legal residency status.
Further verification confirmed that the individual had been subject to an Interpol Red Notice since May 9, 2025, at the request of Kazakh authorities over alleged embezzlement or misappropriation of assets. The case is linked to an illegal enrichment scheme that took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, between September 2023 and December 2024.
Kazakh investigators say that Kairat acted as an intermediary, colluding with certain executives and procurement officials at a forensic examination centre and two related companies to manipulate seven tenders for chemical equipment supply contracts. The equipment was said to be priced at 2.6 times market value, causing estimated losses of approximately US$5 million.
The timely detection, detention and deportation of the internationally wanted suspect underscores the proactive and stringent management of foreign nationals by authorities in Khanh Hoa, while also reflecting Vietnam’s responsible cooperation in combating transnational crime. The suspect has been transferred to Kazakh authorities for further legal proceedings in accordance with Kazakhstan’s law.
