Korean fugitive under Interpol red notice arrested in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Vietnamese police have arrested a national of the Republic of Korea wanted under an Interpol red notice in Hanoi and handed him over to the Korean National Police Agency, local authorities said on January 21.
The Dai Mo Ward Police, under the Hanoi Police Department, said the arrest was carried out in line with directives from the Ministry of Public Security and Hanoi police to combat crimes involving foreign nationals.
During routine monitoring of foreign residents in the area, police identified a suspicious individual later confirmed as Lee Seokone, a 45-year-old citizen of the Republic of Korea.
After verification and cross-checking operational data, police determined that Lee was wanted by Korean authorities for fraud under Article 347 of the RoK’s Criminal Code. He was also subject to an Interpol red notice, issued at the request of Korean police.
Upon confirming Lee’s identity and alleged criminal conduct, the Dai Mo Ward Police reported the case to higher authorities and coordinated closely with the Criminal Police Department and the Immigration Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, as well as relevant units of the Hanoi Police, to complete legal procedures in accordance with Vietnamese law and international practice.
Lee was subsequently handed over to the Korean National Police Agency at Noi Bai International Airport, authorities said, with the transfer carried out in full compliance with legal procedures and security requirements.
