Vietnam confirms second COVID-19 death with multiple comorbidities

VOV.VN - A 61-year-old coronavirus patient with multiple comorbidities died of septic shock and the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), raising the national COVID-19 death toll to 2 in a single day, the Ministry of Health reported on July 31 evening.

The man known as patient 437 was a resident of Cam Le district of Da Nang City, now a major outbreak in Vietnam with 104 locally-transmitted infections.

The patient was diagnosed with a history of chronic renal failure, hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, gout and underwent treatment at Danang Hospital for a long time and he subsequently was found positive for COVID-19 on July 27.

On July 29, he suffered vascular collapse and high blood pressure and then was on life support (ECMO therapy).

According to the Treatment Subcommittee under the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the case is critically ill patient with a high prognosis of death. He died on July 31 despite the tireless treatment efforts by Da Nang Hospital doctors.

Earlier the same day, the first death relating to COVID-19 was also recorded in the nation. The patient was a 70-year-old man who died of myocardial infarction, with chronic diseases of hypertension, heart failure, end-stage chronic renal failure, and complications of respiratory failure due to heart failure and COVID-19.
