VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed a further 4,185 COVID-19 cases, including two imported infections on the evening of August 9, pushing the overall daily figure to 9,340.
Ho Chi Minh City, the epicentre of the ongoing fourth wave of the virus, and the southern province of Binh Duong continue to record the highest number of infections at 3,991, and 2,887.
Hanoi registered 78 local cases, most of which are related to pre-existing clusters, with the majority being F1 contacts. Furthermore other domestic cases were detected in 36 other localities.

The latest confirmed fatalities has pushed up the country’s death toll to 3,757 since the pandemic started to hit the nation early last year
Elsewhere, Hanoi has moved to extend the two-week social distancing order which was initially put in place on July 24 until August 23 amid rising case numbers among the community, with more than 100 recorded a day at certain points.
According to Dinh Tien Dung, secretary of Hanoi Party Committee, social distancing appears to be the most appropriate measure to keep current outbreaks in the capital in check. The majority of citizens have been closely complying with these measures, with ramping up vaccinations also proving vital to Hanoi's battle against the virus, he added.
Hanoi has recorded over 2,000 local cases ever since the resurgence of the virus in late April.
