Vietnam completes multinational peacekeeping exercise PRAGATI-I in India
VOV.VN - Vietnamese forces have successfully completed their participation in the multinational United Nations peacekeeping exercise PRAGATI-I in India, earning high praise for discipline, coordination and professional competence.
The Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region (PRAGATI-I) further affirmed Vietnam’s capacity to participate in UN peacekeeping operations while contributing to enhanced defence cooperation with regional partners.
The closing ceremony of PRAGATI-I was held on May 30 at the Umroi Military Training Centre in Meghalaya state, India, marking the end of a two-week training and field exercise involving 450 military personnel from 13 countries across the region.
A Vietnamese observer delegation from the Ministry of National Defence, led by Major General Pham Manh Thang, director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, attended the ceremony and related review activities.
With a focus on solidarity, friendship, trust and cooperation for peace, PRAGATI-I aimed to strengthen interoperability among participating armed forces in addressing shared security challenges in UN peacekeeping environments.
Within the framework of the exercise, Vietnamese personnel joined a multinational platoon, carrying out a range of operational and support tasks, including helicopter air assault operations, mobile checkpoint establishment, search and clearance missions, securing safe areas, target raids and civil-military cooperation activities.
Previously, Vietnamese troops also participated in intensive training modules such as establishing temporary operating bases, area patrols, ambush and counter-ambush drills, obstacle navigation, mountain climbing, rope descent techniques and live-fire exercises under various conditions.
According to assessments by the exercise organisers and participating delegations, the Vietnamese contingent demonstrated strong discipline, professional conduct, rapid adaptability to a multinational environment and effective coordination with international partners. These achievements were particularly notable given challenging terrain, complex weather conditions and language barriers.
In addition to operational training, the Vietnamese delegation actively engaged in sports, cultural exchanges and professional competitions, contributing to stronger mutual understanding and cohesion among participating forces.
Participation in PRAGATI-I not only provided Vietnamese personnel with opportunities to exchange experience and enhance UN peacekeeping capabilities, but also helped strengthen defence cooperation, trust and friendship between Vietnam, India and other participating countries.
