43 Vietnamese military personnel join PRAGATI-I in India

VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam has deployed two delegations comprising 43 military personnel to participate in the Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region (PRAGATI-I), a multinational peacekeeping exercise hosted by the Indian Army.

The exercise, running from May 18 to 31 and featuring 450 military personnel from 13 countries, is to enhance multinational coordination capabilities and strengthen defence cooperation between India and the participating countries, including Vietnam.

In his opening address on May 20, Major General Sunil Sheoran, Additional Director General of Infantry, Indian Army, welcomed all contingents and highlighted the importance of collective engagement in addressing contemporary security challenges.

According to the Indian military officer, the exercise aims to build collective capabilities through professional exchanges, operational experience sharing, improved interoperability, and stronger military and defense relations among regional countries in addressing common security threats.

PRAGATI-I brings together 450 military personnel representing 13 countries, including Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and India.

Held at the Umroi Military Training Centre, the exercise is conducted under the theme of multinational platoon-level forces operating stabilisation missions in semi-mountainous and forest terrain while responding to asymmetric and hybrid security threats.

The exercise consists of three phases. The first phase focuses on theoretical training covering key topics such as United Nations force protection policy, intelligence collection and analysis, small-unit tactics, and convoy protection operations.

The second phase includes specialised practical training in checkpoint establishment, counter-ambush tactics, live-fire exercises under different terrain conditions, obstacle crossing, airborne insertion, and explosive ordnance detection and disposal.

The final phase involves a comprehensive field exercise based on operational scenarios designed to evaluate deployment and combat capabilities in handling asymmetric and hybrid threats within a United Nations peacekeeping environment.

Weapons and equipment exhibitions by the Indian Army are also being held alongside the exercise.
