Vietnam clarifies news about nationals shot dead in Malaysia

VOV.VN - Vietnamese representative agencies in Malaysia are verifying the news that two Vietnamese men were recently shot dead in Malaysia by local police, according to Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Malaysia’s media outlets reported that a Bangladeshi and two Vietnamese nationals were shot dead by Malaysian police in a gunfight in Pekan district, Pahang state, on March 11.

The gunfight occurred when the police patrolled the area and found a suspicious vehicle. They requested an inspection, but the driver fled. The trio were suspected of planning a robbery at a jewelry shop

A high-speed chase took place before the trio’s vehicle crashed into a police car and came to a halt. The trio opened fire on the police, the police returned fire in self-defense and killed all three.

The police found a Glock-17 pistol, six bullets in a magazine and recovered three bullet casings at the scene, according to local media outlets.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia to verify the news, said the spokesperson at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on March 14.
