Vietnam builds global expert network to advance science and technology
VOV.VN - The National Innovation Centre (NIC) in coordination with the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco, recently held a seminar to strengthen connections with Vietnamese experts worldwide and mobilise their expertise to support science, technology and innovation development in Vietnam.
The event titled “Connecting the Vietnam Innovation & Experts Networks in Silicon Valley to Advance Strategic Technology Development” was part of the Global Business and Innovation Connection Program 2026 (GBIC), taking place from March 13 to 17.
More than 90 Vietnamese experts, scientists, entrepreneurs, and engineers currently working at leading universities, research institutions, and technology companies in the United States attended the seminar.
As a key activity of the GBIC program in the US, the event also brought together representatives from major Vietnamese enterprises and universities, including Viglacera, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Sun Group, the Azurich Foundation, and Vietnam Post.
During the program, the delegation held working sessions with several leading technology corporations and research institutions in Silicon Valley, including NVIDIA, Meta, OpenAI, Marvell Technology, and Stanford University. These meetings opened up opportunities for cooperation in research, training, and technology development in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cloud computing, big data, quantum technology, robotics, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
NIC Deputy Director Vo Xuan Hoai emphasised that connecting and mobilising the network of Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley plays a crucial role in advancing Vietnam’s science, technology, and innovation landscape.
He noted that effectively leveraging the intellectual resources of the Vietnamese community abroad is essential for strengthening domestic technological capacity and accelerating the growth of strategic technology sectors.
Participants also shared experiences and proposed cooperation models between Vietnam and the United States, focusing on enhancing the innovation ecosystem, commercialising research, developing high-quality tech talent and promoting collaboration among businesses, universities and research institutions.
Several initiatives were proposed, including efforts to position Vietnam as an attractive destination for global tech leaders such as Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, as well as a plan to gather 100 outstanding Vietnamese technology talents worldwide for an event scheduled in October 2026.
Meanwhile, Le Viet Quoc, a leading expert at Google, said artificial intelligence presents major opportunities for Vietnam to address development challenges and achieve breakthroughs in strategic technology sectors. He also pledged to help connect around 100 top Vietnamese-origin technology experts worldwide.
Le Duc Trung, Deputy Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, said the Consulate General will continue supporting initiatives that ramp up cooperation in science, technology, innovation and high-tech investment between Vietnam and the United States.
Such efforts contribute to deepening practical collaboration under the Vietnam–United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in emerging technology fields, he stressed.
