Vietnam, Australia cooperate in foreign language teaching
(VOV) - The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has organised a signing-ceremony of two cooperation agreements to support the national foreign language scheme 2020.
At the signing ceremony, MOET Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien acknowledged the importance of the partnership to increase the levels of English proficiency in Vietnam’s school system.
The event also marked the start of activities to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Australia in 2013, he noted.
In the first agreement, Australian enterprise the English Language Company (ELC) will provide volunteer teachers from native English-speaking countries such as the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa to primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities throughout Vietnam.
The volunteers will be trained and assigned to educational insititutions based on greatest demand to help increase English levels for students and improve the communication skills of Vietnamese teachers.
In the second agreement, Australian education software developer Greg Ellis will supply MOET’s National Foreign Language Scheme 2020 with software that trains students and teachers for standard English and IELTS examinations.
Ellis developed the software after 10 years of researching Vietnamese students in Melbourne, Australia, and Ho Chi Minh City.
