Vietnam and France increase cooperation in vaccine production

VOV.VN - Representatives from the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) and Sanofi have recently signed a document on cooperation in producing certain Sanofi vaccines at the VNVC factory in Vietnam.

Under the signed document, Sanofi will share extensive knowledge and expertise in biotechnology with VNVC to facilitate the gradual production of essential vaccines at the VNVC factory in Vietnam.

Such cooperation will not only enhance access to vaccines for Vietnamese people but also contribute to ensuring a stable and proactive vaccine supply, significantly reducing various costs.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Paris on October 8, Country Director of Sanofi Vietnam Burak Pekmezci stated that Sanofi is one of the leading vaccine manufacturers in the world, with over half a billion people globally using its products each year.

In Vietnam alone, he said Sanofi provided more than seven million doses of high-quality vaccines in 2023.

Sanofi wishes to share its knowledge and contribute to the development of the healthcare sector and improve public health in Vietnam, he said.

For his part, VNVC CEO Ngo Chi Dung noted that the strategic partnership between the two parties will play a crucial role in promoting discussions and cooperation, focusing on knowledge sharing, joint production, and technology transfer capabilities.

VNVC’s participation in the vaccine production chain is a vital strategy for ensuring proactive vaccine production, reducing shortages, and enabling Vietnam to take the initiative in its epidemic prevention strategies, he said.

To realise the document, he revealed that VNVC will soon establish a vaccine and biological product manufacturing facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology that meets EU GMP standards in Long An province, in order to produce important vaccines and biological medicines, thereby ensuring a proactive supply for Vietnam.

This is the first time that a Vietnamese private enterprise has signed a cooperation framework for the transfer of advanced vaccine production technology in Vietnam.

Sanofi is a leading French pharmaceutical company known for producing high-quality medicines and vaccines for global distribution, including in Vietnam.

For the past seven decades in Vietnam, Sanofi has engaged in numerous significant activities in scientific research, providing medicines and vaccines, and supporting training and knowledge transfer for healthcare staff and the community across various fields.
