Vietnam adapts to climate change

More than 80% of the Mekong River Delta and 30% of the Red River Delta are 2.5 meters below sea level. Climate change phenomena such as sea water rise will expand inundated areas, erode the seacoast, and damage sea dykes, roads, ports, factories, and homes.  Sea water rise and higher temperatures will affect marine and coastal ecosystems and aquaculture activities.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed to the government and sustainable solutions to adapt to climate change, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and building a monitoring system for river banks and coastline.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has worked with ministries and sectors to develop climate change response models for coastal aquaculture, irrigation, and flood and storm resistant rural transportation, and inland dykes to prevent salt water intrusion.

To effectively respond to climate change, Vietnam will steadily improve its technology, international cooperation, and communications on climate change.
