VGCL President holds talks with Australia trade union leader

President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) held talks with President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) Ged Kearney in Hanoi on January 4.
Tung thanked the ACTU for helping the VGCL renew activities and improve capacity through its agency Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA.
He informed the guest of the VGCL’s activities over the past time, including designing labour and trade union policies, working as a government’s think-tank in terms of building mechanisms that protect legitimate rights and interests of workers and ensure sustainable development.
A major task of the VGCL for its new tenure is protecting legitimate rights and interests of workers, he affirmed.
The host also hoped that the visit would further strengthen solidarity and cooperation between the two countries’ labour movements and trade unions.
Kearney , for her part, also updated the host about Australia ’s developments and the ACTU’s activities.
She wished that both sides would intensify their growing ties in the future.
