VAVA strives to promote justice for AO victims

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) will continue to strongly promote the struggle for justice of AO victims moving forward, heard a meeting of the association held on December 9 in the central city of Da Nang.

At the fifth conference of the VAVA Central Committee for the 2018 to 2023 tenure, delegates reviewed the implementation of tasks this year and outlined orientations for operations moving into 2023.

Nguyen Van Rinh, president of the VAVA, said the association aims to mobilise between VND450 billion and VND500 billion, equivalent to between US$19.1 million and US$21.2 million, in 2023 as a means of contributing to building funds and supporting victims in various forms.

The association will also strive to ramp up citizen diplomacy activities and push the struggle for justice for AO/dioxin victims in line with the Party's foreign policy, he said.

This year has seen the association raise almost VND555 billion in cash and for the fund for AO/dioxin victims, he noted.
A series of activities have been organized to call for greater international support for AO victims. Meanwhile, relations with foreign organizations and individuals, as well as  meetings and working sessions with traditional partners, have also been maintained.

It has helped to strengthen connections between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its chapters based in localities nationwide to support AO victims.

The association has worked hard on inspecting the implementation of projects to support AO victims in localities, whilst also co-ordinating with its chapter in Ho Chi Minh City in a bid to restart a Japan-funded project to construct an AO village in Hoc Mon district.

With its numerous achievements recorded this year, VAVA’s three units and individuals were awarded Labour Orders by the President, whilst three others were presented with emulation flags and certificates of merit by the Prime Minister.
