Uzbek nationals arrested for using counterfeit dollar bills in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The police of Phu Quoc city in the southern province of Kien Giang said on December 27 that they have detained three Uzbek nationals for using counterfeit dollar bills locally.
The foreign individuals were found to use counterfeit bank notes US$100 to purchase goods or exchange for Vietnamese Dong from local grocery stores, restaurants, and hotels. So far, several victims have fallen for the scam, losing over 200 million Vietnamese Dong.
Tipped off by local people, the police
conducted an investigation and found three suspects from Uzbekistan who were staying at Grand World Phu Quoc, an entertainment and shopping complex locatedin the city.
The three suspects were Nasyrov Odiljon, 31, Ernazarov Feruzbek, 24, and Rasulov Isroil, 31.
The police confiscated more than US$22,000 in counterfeit dollar bills and more than VND330 million in cash.
Initially, the suspects admitted to circulating counterfeit currency and engaging in fraudulent activities by either exchanging fake dollar bank notes or purchasing goods and receiving change in legitimate Vietnamese Dong, thereby defrauding local businesses.
The Phu Quoc City Police have called on any other victims of these individuals to come forward and report to the police for further processing in accordance with the law.
