US to donate more COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam

VOV.VN - The United States will continue to deliver additional COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam in the coming years, revealed Marie Damour, Charge D’affaires at the US Embassy in Vietnam.

Both countries have cooperated in health care for nearly 30 years and such cooperation will be continued in the coming years, the US diplomat told media workers in Hanoi on December 20.

She earlier the same day attended an inauguration ceremony of the Department of Tropical Disease and Harm Reduction at Hanoi medical University Hospital.

The department was established with support from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

During a visit to Vietnam in August 2021, Vice President Kamala Harris noted health care, alongside security and economics, is one of the three key cooperation areas the US is committed to fostering with Vietnam.

The US has so far granted nearly US$1 billion to help develop Vietnam’s healthcare infrastructure. Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, the US has also committed US$26.7 million in aid to help Vietnam respond to the pandemic.

Currently the US is Vietnam’s largest COVID-19 vaccine donor, delivering more than 18 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna.
