Uruguay opens honorary consulate in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Uruguay on January 13 opened a consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, with an eye toward expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Vietnam and other countries throughout Southeast Asia.
Over the past few months, government officials from Vietnam and Uruguay have held a series of discussions regarding cooperation in areas such as education, citizen protection, peacekeeping and political support on the international stage.
Linh said Uruguay also expects the opening of its embassy to bolster cooperation between regional organizations, particularly between ASEAN and Mercosur, a premier economic bloc in Latin America.
Mercosur’s five full members, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Venezuela, have a combined gross domestic product of roughly US$2.8 trillion, making it one of the world’s largest blocs.
About 250 million of the bloc’s approximately 292 million inhabitants live in Argentina and Brazil.
