UNICEF support for Vietnam in childcare and protection hailed
VOV.VN - Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’s permanent representative to the UN, has noted his appreciation for UNICEF’s support of the nation in protecting and promoting children’s rights, particularly those related to education, health care, nutrition, and vaccination.
At a reception held for June Kunugi, director of UNICEF’s Public Partnerships Division in New York, on May 30, the Vietnamese diplomat affirmed that as childcare and protection is a leading priority in the national socio-economic development strategy, the country has devoted necessary resources for child development.
He voiced his hope that UNICEF and Kunugi, who will assume her role as regional director for East Asia and the Pacific this summer, will continue assisting the nation to mobilize resources, develop policies, and intensify specific and practical cooperation programmes and plans. This will contribute to achieving more positive results in this regard, while also helping the National Fund for Vietnamese Children realize the targets on children.
Kunugi, for her part, expressed her positive impression of and hailed the achievements that the country has recorded during its nearly 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), describing them as a foundation for the country to reap encouraging results in child care and protection.
UNICEF greatly values the proposed Vietnamese resolution on the International Day of Play, which was recently adopted by the UN General Assembly, she said, affirming that the organisation will join hands with the group of core countries to organise the first celebration on June 11 and to make it a meaningful event for the comprehensive development of children across the globe.
Both sides consented to work hand in hand for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam - UNICEF partnership.
They will also discuss a range of measures aimed at improving UNICEF’s operational efficiency in mobilising resources, carrying out programmes and projects, and bolstering linkages in the Asia-Pacific region.
