UNFPA helps Vietnam respond to gender-based, domestic violence
A project to support the development and implementation of evidence and human rights-based policies and programmes on prevention and response to gender violence, domestic violence and on addressing sex work-related issues was launched in Hanoi on December 15.
It will also work to raise the capacity and responsibility of relevant state agencies and organisations; and change the awareness and behaviour of policy-makers and the community, especially men, of prevention and response to gender-related violence and domestic violence.
In addition, the project looks to support the development and implementation of evidence and human rights-based policies and programmes on addressing issues related to prostitution.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, MoLISA Deputy Minister Dao Hong Lan said that thanks to joint efforts of the Government and people, Vietnam has seen positive achievements in ensuring gender equality.
However, there remain a lot of difficulties and challenges, requiring more effective solutions, Lan stated.
With the technical assistance from the UNFPA, she believed that the project will help narrowing gender inequality and contribute to the implementation of programmes and strategies on gender equality, gender-based and domestic violence prevention and settlement of prostitution issues, as well as sustainable development goals in Vietnam.
