UK provides additional GBP300,000 for flood relief in Central Vietnam
VOV.VN - The UK Government has pledged an additional GBP300,000 to support humanitarian relief efforts in Central Vietnam following recent storms and floods, the British Embassy in Hanoi announced in Hanoi on November 21.
Together with the GBP500,000 aid provided in October, the new aid brings the UK’s total emergency assistance to Vietnam this year to GBP800,000 (approximately VND27 billion).
The additional funding will be implemented through UNICEF in close coordination with Vietnam’s Department of Dyke Management and Flood and Storm Control, providing emergency relief in Gia Lai province. The aid package includes cash assistance, clean water, and hygiene supplies for communities most severely affected by the disasters.
As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner and member of Vietnam’s Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership (DRRP), the United Kingdom stands ready to work closely with Vietnam to address urgent needs and contribute to long-term climate resilience and adaptation efforts, said UK Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew.
This assistance is part of the UK’s broader support package for Vietnam and the Philippines - two ASEAN countries heavily impacted by recent storms.
In Vietnam, flooding in the central region remains severe following Typhoon Kalmaegi and prolonged heavy rainfall. River levels in Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, and Gia Lai have risen sharply, with some locations exceeding historical flood peaks.
