UK offers 20 Chevening scholarships to Vietnamese students

VOV.VN -The UK Government has decided to offer 20 Chevening Scholarships to Vietnamese students for the 2026 - 2027 academic year, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the development of future leaders across nations, including Vietnam, according to the British Embassy in Hanoi.

The application portal for the UK Government’s fully funded Chevening Master’s Scholarships is now open, and applications must be submitted by October 7, 2025 at the latest, via: www.chevening.org/apply.

The British Embassy revealed that this year there have been many changes to the application requirements. Accordingly, applicants must have at least two years of work experience, a total of 2,800 hours, acquired after the completion of their undergraduate degree.

If applying for an award from an ODA-eligible country, applicants must be a resident of that country, though it does not have to be their country of citizenship.

Furthermore, while the themes remain the same, the essay part has been updated and now includes sub-questions. These aim to encourage applicants to provide real-life examples, reduce the use of AI-generated content, and better link course choices with UK priority areas.

The word limit for each essay response is now 300 words, down from the previous 500 words.

Applicants must relate their choice of course to one of the UK’s priority themes, including promoting growth and prosperity; building resilience in the context of climate change; enhancing security and stability; and supporting inclusive and effective development in society.

Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme which is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support one-year taught master’s degrees at UK universities for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.

Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme. Introduced in Vietnam in 1993, approximately 550 Vietnamese students have been awarded the scholarships.
