Typhoon Bualoi heads toward East Sea, central Vietnam to brace for impact

VOV.VN - Typhoon Bualoi, the 10th storm in the East Sea, was centered at about 11.1°N, 128.1°E at 1 p.m. on September 25 over waters east of the Philippines, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 118–133 kph and was moving west-northwest at 15-20 kph, with gusts up to around 167 kph (level 15).

Forecasters expect Bualoi to enter the East Sea on the afternoon of September 27, near 14.8°N, 117.5°E. The danger zone during this period is defined between latitudes 12.0-17.5°N and east of 115.0°E; a disaster risk level 3 has been issued for the eastern parts of the northern and central East Sea.

By 1 p.m. on September 28, the typhoon is forecast to accelerate to about 25 kph and expand its danger zone to latitudes 12.5-19.5°N and east of 108.0°E. The northern and central East Sea, including the Paracel (Hoang Sa) Islands, should monitor developments closely.

From the evening of September 26, the northeastern and central East Sea will experience strong winds of around 62–74 kph (level 8), with higher speeds closer to the storm’s center. Waves in the danger zone could rise 5-7 metres, making seas extremely rough and posing serious risks to fishing and transport vessels. Authorities warn that maritime activities in the area should be suspended or seek safe shelter.

Given the storm’s speed and potential to strengthen, coastal provinces from north-central to south-central Vietnam should prepare response plans. Fishermen are advised not to go to sea; vessels at berth must be securely moored; and fish farms and coastal ports should protect assets.

On land, heavy rains from the storm’s interaction with the intertropical convergence zone may increase the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, with local authorities required to issue warnings and prepare to evacuate residents in high-risk locations.

Residents and agencies should continue to follow official updates from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting for real-time information on the storm’s position and intensity, and comply with emergency safety recommendations.
