Two Vietnamese women honoured at PepsiCo Global Farmers Awards

VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese female farmers, Van Anh and H’Am Nie, were honoured by PepsiCo at the recent 2025 PepsiCo Global Farmer Awards in New York, the US.

This was the first time the awards ceremony was held at PepsiCo's headquarters, recgonizing the 'silent heroes' who play a key role in creating and maintaining the global food system.

The event honored nearly 60 representative farmers and experts from 19 countries. Among them, the two Vietnamese farmers were acknowledged for their pioneering efforts in sustainable farming, application of science and technology, and the positive impact they created within their local agricultural communities.

As one of the world’s leading food and beverage corporations with a strong agricultural foundation, PepsiCo currently purchases more than 50 types of crops and food ingredients across over 60 countries, including potatoes from Vietnam.

Van Anh, who was born into a farming family in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, boldly transformed her cultivation model when she and her family developed a farm in Gia Lai province. By joining PepsiCo’s potato supply chain, she quickly gained access to technology- and data-driven farming practices, optimizing irrigation systems, input management, and production processes.

In 2024, her farm achieved a yield of 42 tonnes per hectare, mong the highest in PepsiCo’s potato-growing program in the Central Highlands, while effectively controlling irrigation water use and crop protection inputs.

Van Anh currently manages PepsiCo’s model farm in Gia Lai and supports many young farmers in adopting modern farming techniques.

Meanwhile,  H’Am Nie, an Ede ethnic minority farmer in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, is a representative example of positive transformation within her local agricultural community. She began growing potatoes in 2017 and gradually improved her skills, adopting sustainable methods and increasing her yield from 16 to 25 tonnes per hectare.

Beyond improving her own family’s livelihood, she actively shares her experience and supports ethnic minority women in participating in agricultural production. Her contributions also earned her a nomination for the Community Leadership Award at the 2025 PepsiCo Global Farmer Awards.

This year’s awards took place as PepsiCo elevated its goals under the pep+ strategy, with Positive Agriculture as one of its key pillars. By 2024, PepsiCo had implemented positive agricultural practices on more than 3.5 million hectares of land worldwide, and aims to increase this figure to 10 million hectares by 2030.

In Vietnam, PepsiCo collaborates with the She Feeds the World (SFtW) programme implemented by CARE, the USAID–Resonance (GDA) project, the Investing in Women to Strengthen Agricultural Supply Chains project (DAI), as well as other partners to transform and improve the efficiency of potato farming, aiming toward a more sustainable and inclusive agricultural sector.

Since 2008, PepsiCo Foods Vietnam has expanded its local potato-growing area from 4 households on 27 hectares to more than 2,500 households on nearly 2,000 hectares, supplying about 42,000 tonnes of potatoes annually by 2025. Average yields have tripled, reaching 23-26 tonnes per hectare, while saving approximately 3,741 m³ of water per hectare. In 2024 alone, water savings were estimated at more than 5 million m³.

Through its raw-material development programnes and farmer recognition initiatives, PepsiCo continues to affirm its long-term commitment to supporting Vietnamese farmers. These programmes work towards achieving sustainable livelihoods, better community health outcomes and positive environmental contributions.
