PepsiCo seen as strategic partner in Vietnam’s development
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung has urged US multinational PepsiCo to deepen its engagement in Vietnam’s development and support local businesses in joining its global supply chain, while highlighting the group’s role as a strategic partner.

On July 4, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hosted a reception for Eugene Willemsen, CEO of International Beverages at PepsiCo.
Dung congratulated PepsiCo on its global and local investment success, and praised the group’s contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development, particularly through its food processing facility in Ninh Binh (formerly part of Ha Nam) and beverage plant in Tay Ninh (formerly part of Long An). He also recognized the company’s efforts in environmental protection, food safety, employee welfare, workforce training, innovation, and digital transformation.
Providing an overview of Vietnam’s economic trajectory, Dung noted the country is targeting GDP growth of over 8% in 2025 and double-digit growth from 2026 to 2030, thus forming the foundation for a new era of development. To achieve this, the government is implementing key resolutions, streamlining administrative structures, consolidating local units, and adopting a two-tier local government model to expand development space and remove institutional bottlenecks.
The Deputy PM emphasized that, given its global scale, PepsiCo should not be seen merely as a regular investor but as a strategic partner for Vietnam. He called on the group to support local enterprises in joining PepsiCo’s supply chain and enhance its overall contributions to the country’s development.
Dung urged PepsiCo to expand its investment cooperation and act as a bridge to attract other US companies and partners to Vietnam. He also encouraged the company to advocate for more favorable US trade policies for Vietnamese exports, and to share knowledge, technology, and governance models with local suppliers, especially in digital and green transformation.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to providing optimal conditions for domestic and foreign investors to operate sustainably and effectively in Vietnam, and encouraged PepsiCo to continue upholding its social responsibilities, investing in socio-cultural infrastructure, and ensuring strong employee welfare.
For his part, Eugene Willemsen praised Vietnam’s economic development efforts and said the country’s progress is clearly felt by investors like PepsiCo. He affirmed the group’s readiness to support Vietnam’s double-digit growth goals and to promote R&D and digital transformation.
He also voiced support for Vietnam’s reforms in taxation, e-invoicing, and administrative restructuring, and accentuated the need for stable, predictable policies to enable effective implementation. PepsiCo, he added, looks forward to deeper engagement in policy dialogue and contribution.
