Two rare, endangered animals released back into the wild in Lam Dong
VOV.VN - Residents in Phan Son commune, Lam Dong province, voluntarily handed over two rare and endangered animals to the local police on January 6-7, reported authorities.
On January 7, K' K Rieng, a 55-year-old resident of Ta Moon Hamlet, surrendered a lion male lion-tailed macaque (Lion Monkey) to the police. The monkey, weighing 9 kilograms, is listed in the Vietnamese Red Book as a rare and endangered forest animal under Group IIB, requiring protection.
Earlier, on January 6, Nguyen Van Phuc, 33, residing in Phan Son commune, discovered a civet at his farm in Ta Moon Hamlet. Upon spotting the animal, Phuc captured it and promptly handed it over to the commune police for safe release.
The civet, also listed in the Vietnam Red Book under Group IIB, weighed 1.2 kilograms and was reported in good health.
Both animals were released back into their natural habitats and quickly adapted to the wild.
Local authorities praised the proactive actions of the residents, highlighting the importance of community involvement in wildlife conservation.
