Two COVID-19 fatalities recorded amid halt to domestic health declaration
VOV.VN - The Health Ministry confirmed a further 4,305 fresh COVID-19 infections across 56 localities nationwide on May 5, while only two fatalities were recorded.
The latest transmissions rose by 1,217 cases compared to the previous day’s figure, duly bringing the total caseload in the country to 10,666,751 since the start of the pandemic.
Hanoi continues to top the daily numbers with 684 cases, trailed by Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc, with 439 and 273 infections, respectively.
A further two COVID-19 deaths were also confirmed on the same day to raise the nation's death toll since the pandemic started last year to 43,049, thereby accounting for 0.4% of the total caseload.
The overall number of COVID-19 fatalities has fallen to single figures in recent times, with only two over the past seven days.
Furthermore, the total number of recovered patients nationwide has now climbed to 9,314,420 after more than 5,000 COVID-19 cases made a full recovery from the virus.
The Ministry of Health announced on Monday that over 215.1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been administered throughout the country.
In another move, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct relevant agencies to suspend the application of domestic health declaration for domestic travel, or at public places and restaurants, from 0:00 a.m. on April 30.
According to the Ministry, the COVID-19 pandemic in the country has been brought under control as the number of infections and deaths has plunged dramatically.
The vaccination coverage against the pandemic is currently at a high level nationwide and is still effective against all existing variants.
In order to protect the health of the people and maintain anti-pandemic achievements with the goal of putting people's health and life first, localities and relevant agencies have been requested to continue maintaining surveillance, detect and handle COVID-19 outbreaks effectively. Indeed, this should be done in accordance with the guidance and direction of the Government, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and relevant ministries and sectors.
