Two cold air masses to bring rain to North Vietnam in coming days
VOV.VN - The northern region of Vietnam is expected to brace itself for two cold air masses that will bring rain to many regional localities this weekend and early next week, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.
The first wave of cold air will strike on October 19, but will shift significantly towards the East Sea, resulting in only scattered rain and thunderstorms in mountainous areas.
Temperatures are anticipated to fall slightly, said meteorologists.
However, a stronger cold front will hit northern localities on October 22-23, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms, and sending temperatures falling considerably at night and in the morning.
In the highlands, the lowest temperature at night would probably nosedive to 14°C, while the capital city of Hanoi is set to record a low of 21°C at night.
After October 22, the cold air will intensify, and rain is expected to extend to central localities from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh.
Cold air is forecast to be particularly strong in December 2024 and January 2025, potentially causing severe cold spells and harsh winter conditions.
There is a risk of prolonged cold spells, especially in the northern mountainous regions, accompanied by frost and ice during this period, warned meteorologists.
