Two Chinese nationals under international arrest warrants handed over to China
VOV.VN - Police in Bac Ninh province have coordinated with relevant units to hand over two Chinese nationals under international arrest warrants for alleged real estate fraud and money laundering.
The Bac Ninh provincial police, working with the Office of the Criminal Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Public Security, finalized procedures to transfer the two individuals to Chinese law enforcement agencies at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in northern Lang Son province.
The two men, Zhang Zhen, 39, and Li Dawei, 37, had previously been placed on wanted lists by Chinese police and were classified as dangerous offenders.
According to wanted notices issued by Zhongshan city police in Guangdong province, between January 2019 and September 2021, Zhang Zhen and accomplices allegedly carried out a real estate fraud scheme by approaching property owners, arranging sham buyers with no purchasing capacity, and instructing owners to proceed with transfer transactions.
The group is accused of obtaining loan commitment letters through lending intermediaries and making advance payments of 30% to gain trust. After ownership was transferred, they allegedly mortgaged the properties to lending companies and refused to pay the remaining balance.
According to Chinese police, the scheme targeted 26 victims, with total losses amounting to 21.1527 million yuan, equivalent to about VND 80 billion.
In a separate case, Li Dawei was wanted by Zhejiang city police in Guangdong province for allegedly facilitating illegal money laundering for fraud networks.
Case files show that Li Dawei provided bank accounts to receive illicit funds, used the money to purchase gold, then converted the gold into cryptocurrency, collecting commissions of 30% and generating substantial illegal profits.
The two individuals fled to Vietnam in an attempt to evade arrest but were later detected, detained and handed over to Chinese law enforcement agencies in accordance with the law.
