Twenty-eight fishermen rescued in Ninh Thuan

As many as 28 fishermen were brought ashore safely by three fishing boats on April 3 after a whirlwind sank their vessel in waters off Da Lat island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

They were on board of the fishing boat coded QNg 95302 from the central province of Quang Ngai, which anchored in the area, about one mile away from Da Lat island, to hunt for cuttlefish.

The boat sank at around 22:00 late March 29. All assets on board including 11 oil barrels and more than 8 tonnes of cuttlefish, worth approximately VND5 billion (US$220,000), were lost.

Fortunately, the fishermen were discovered and rescued by three other vessels from the central province of Ninh Thuan that were fishing nearby.

They were brought safely to Ca Na port in Ninh Thuan at 9:20 am on April 3.
