Tropical depression strengthens, moves towards South-central coast of Vietnam
VOV.VN - The tropical depression that formed in the East Sea on December 21 is gathering its strength and heading towards the South-central coast of Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
As of 1:00 AM on December 22, the tropical depression is located in the southern part of the East Sea, packing winds of 39-49 kmh near its centre.
The depression is expected to continue moving east-northeast during the day and night of December 22 before changing direction towards the northwest at a slow pace of about 10 kmh, maintaining its intensity.
On December 23, the tropical depression is set to strengthen and move steadily northwest at about 10 kmh. In the coming 24 hours, it will be located near the southern part of the Paracel Islands, with winds gusting 75-88kph.
Meteorologists say the weather pattern will bring moderate to heavy rain, and thunderstorms to the Central and South Central regions from December 23 to 26. The rainfall will generally be between 100-300 mm, with some places receiving over 500 mm.
The Southeastern region will also experience rain and thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy rainfall, on December 24-25.
