Tropical depression likely to strengthen into storm

VOV.VN - The national weather agency has issued a warning that a tropical depression in the northeastern part of the northern East Sea (South China Sea) is expected to intensify into a storm, bringing thunderstorms and strong winds to the area.

According to the latest update from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of 1:00 p.m. on July 4, the center of the tropical depression was located at approximately 19.8°N latitude and 118.6°E longitude. The strongest winds near the center were at level 7 (50-61 km/h), with gusts reaching level 9. The system is moving slowly westward at a speed of 5-10 km/h.

Over the next 24 hours, the tropical depression is forecast to move northwest at 5-10 km/h and is likely to strengthen into a storm. By 1:00 p.m. on July 5, its center is expected to be at around 20.7°N latitude and 117.5°E longitude, over the northeastern waters of the East Sea.

In the following 48 hours, the storm is anticipated to move northeastward at a speed of 5-10 km/h and may intensify further. By 1:00 p.m. on July 6, the center of the storm will likely be at around 22.1°N latitude and 118.5°E longitude, still over the northeastern part of the East Sea. Wind speeds near the center could reach level 10, with gusts up to level 12.

Between 48 and 72 hours from now, the storm is expected to continue moving northeastward at about 20 km/h with little change in intensity.

Due to the system’s impact, the northeastern waters of the northern East Sea are experiencing thunderstorms and strong winds of level 6-7, which may increase to levels 8–9 with gusts reaching level 11. The sea will be very rough, with wave heights ranging from 3 to 5 meters.

Vessels operating in the affected areas are advised to be aware of potential thunderstorms, squalls, strong winds, and high waves.
