Tropical depression heads towards East Sea, gains strength

VOV.VN - The low pressure zone in the eastern sea area of the central Philippines has developed into a tropical depression, and is forecast to head towards the East Sea, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

Forecasters said at 7 am on July 14, the tropical depression was swirling across the Philippines’ Luzon Island with winds gusting between 39km and 49km per hour near its eye.

Over the course of the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression is expected to track the northwest direction at a speed of between 15km and 20km per hour and likely to gain strength.

The violent weather pattern is anticipated to cause strong winds and rough seas in the north-eastern part of the East Sea, triggering high waves of up to three metres in the area.

All local Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Control have been requested to closely monitor the developments of the tropical low pressure, notify fishing vessels operating at sea to timely anchor onshore or seek safe storm shelters in a bid to avoid the danger areas.

Rescue forces and facilities are required to stand ready for coping with the impact of tropical depression moving forward.
