Tropical depression formed north-west of Hoang Sa archipelago

Forecasters said the tropical depression’s centre was positioned at 18.5 degrees north and 111.3 degree east, about 100km east-southeast of China’s Hainan island. Strongest winds near the centre were estimated at 40-50km per hour.

In the next 24 hours, the tropical depression is forecast to move north northwest at a speed of 10km per hour.

As impacted by the tropical depression, there will be heavy showers and thunderstorms in the East Sea in the next 24 hours.

Over the next 24 to 48 hours, the tropical low pressure will move north north-west at a speed of 5 km per hour.

Thunderstorms, gales and tornadoes are likely to hit the Tonkin Gulf, the southern area of the East Sea (including the Truong Sa archipelago) and the territorial waters from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand.
