Tran Hong Thai awarded Honorary Doctorate by Moscow Power Engineering Institute

VOV.VN - Prof.Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) has been conferred the Honorary Doctorate, a prestigious academic recognition awarded to individuals with outstanding contributions to scientific development, education, and international collaboration in the energy sector.

The ceremony was witnessed by the academic community, scientists, and delegates from Vietnam and Russia on December 12, at the grand hall of Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI).

During the ceremony, MPEI Rector N. Rogalev presented the academic robe and the Honorary Doctorate diploma, highlighting the Russian academic community’s respect for Dr. Tran, who is an alumnus of the institute. Dr. Tran’s portrait was officially added to MPEI’s “Honorary Doctors” gallery, cementing his place among the distinguished scholars recognized by the university.

In his remarks, Dr. Tran expressed deep emotion at returning to MPEI, where he had studied and developed the foundation of knowledge, analytical thinking, and rigorous scientific practice that shaped his subsequent contributions to Vietnamese science.

He congratulated MPEI on its recent achievements, including the rapid development of research centers in energy, nuclear power, power systems, and automation.

Dr. Tran also emphasized that Vietnam is entering a new development phase, with rapidly growing energy demand, a strong shift toward green energy, and long-term preparations for a nuclear power program-areas in which VAST plays a central role in research, policy advisory, and human resource training.

As both a leader of VAST and a former MPEI student, Tran affirmed that he will continue acting as a bridge to promote postgraduate training, interdisciplinary research, and technology transfer, fostering deeper, practical, and effective Vietnam-Russia cooperation in the energy sector.

The conferral of the Honorary Doctorate on Professor, Dr. Tran Hong Thai shows the enduring friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Russia over decades and acknowledges the traditional ties between the two nations’ scientific communities. It also marks new prospects for cooperation between VAST and MPEI in energy, nuclear power, high technology, and the development of high-quality human resources, thus solidifying Vietnam’s scientific and technological foundation for long-term development strategies.

Founded in 1930, MPEI is a leading national research university in energy, electric power, and nuclear engineering. It serves as a key training ground for Russia’s national power system and is a strategic partner of Rosatom. Over more than seven decades of cooperation with Vietnam, MPEI has trained hundreds of engineers and energy specialists who have gone on to hold key positions in Vietnam’s research institutes, enterprises, and management agencies.
