Traffic crashes claim 138 lives over five-day holiday
VOV.VN - A total of 347 traffic accidents occurred nationwide during the recent five-day break marking National Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labour Day (May 1), killing 138 people and injuring 285 others.
The figures mark drops of 9.16%, 32.35% and 1.38% in the numbers of accidents, deaths, and injuries respectively from the same holiday last year, the Ministry of Public Security reported.
Over the five-day holiday from April 27 to May 1, traffic police nationwide handled a total of 78,254 traffic violations, issued fines totaling VND171 billion, impounded 748 cars and 29,325 motorbikes, and revoked 15,327 driving licenses.
Among those, 21,369 drink driving cases faced sanctions.
Furthermore, 21,088 cases violated speed regulations, while 87 drivers tested positive for drugs.
