Traffic accidents kill nearly 60 in 3 days of long holiday

In the first three days of the 5-day holiday which lasts from April 27 – May 1, the whole country saw 76 traffic accidents which killed 58 people and injured 52 others, according to the National Traffic Safety Commission.

The figures were the same with those of last year in terms of the number of accidents, but the toll was 11.5 percent higher in the deaths and 13 percent higher in the injuries.

On April 29 alone, there were 32 road and railway accidents nationwide which killed 22 people and injured 19 others.

Traffic and local police had detected and dealt with 3,166 violation cases, collected fines totaling over 2.7 billion VND (about 116,300 USD), and detained 25 automobiles and 437 motorbikes. They also intensified their checks to prevent the overload of passengers on coaches.
