Traffic accidents decline across all indicators during April 30 – May 1 holiday
VOV.VN - Traffic accidents in Vietnam decreased across all key indicators during the four-day Reunification Day and May Day holiday period in 2026, compared with the same period last year, according to the Traffic Police Department.
Nationwide, 177 traffic accidents were recorded, resulting in 95 fatalities and 114 injuries, down by 72 accidents, 35 deaths and 65 injuries compared with the 2025 holiday period.
Road traffic accounted for the vast majority of incidents, with 176 accidents causing 94 deaths and 114 injuries, down by 71 accidents, 35 fatalities and 41 injuries.
Railway transport recorded one accident, resulting in one death. Compared with the previous year, the number of incidents remained unchanged, while fatalities increased by one and injuries showed no change.
No accidents were reported on inland waterways during the holiday period.
Competent agencies also intensified enforcement efforts during the holiday. On roads nationwide, police detected more than 53,800 violations and issued over 53,900 citations. A total of 277 cars, 13,033 motorcycles and 1,048 other vehicles were temporarily seized. Authorities revoked 1,479 driver’s licenses and applied penalty point deductions in 7,951 cases.
Among the violations, alcohol related offenses accounted for 11,411 cases, while 13,390 cases involved speeding. Other violations included 184 cases of overloading, 395 cases of using mobile phones or electronic devices while driving, and 21 cases related to drug use.
The decline in traffic accidents during one of Vietnam’s busiest travel periods highlights the impact of stricter enforcement measures and increased public awareness of road safety regulations.
