Traffic accidents, deaths, injuries all rise in April: official data

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded a rise in traffic accidents in April 2026, with all three key indicators - number of cases, fatalities, and injuries - increasing compared to the previous month, according to official data.

Figures released by the National Statistics Office show that between March 15 and April 14, a total of 1,199 traffic accidents were reported nationwide, resulting in 754 deaths and 682 injuries.

Compared with March, the number of accidents rose by 13.0%, fatalities increased by 7.6%, and injuries climbed by 12.7%.

Despite this monthly rise, the broader trend for the first four months of 2026 shows improvement from a year earlier. Nationwide, there were 5,278 traffic accidents, causing 3,259 deaths and 3,118 injuries, representing declines of 16.9% in cases and 7.8% in fatalities yearon year.

However, the month-on-month spike serves as a warning about the need for greater vigilance and awareness among road users.

On average, Vietnam recorded around 44 traffic accidents per day during the January–April period, resulting in 27 deaths and 26 injuries daily. These figures highlight the ongoing human cost of traffic incidents, with dozens of families affected each day by loss or injury.
