Traffic accidents claim nearly 2,600 lives across Vietnam in Q1
VOV.VN - As many as 4,755 traffic accidents happened across the country in the period from December 15, 2024 – March 14, 2025, resulting in 2,598 deaths and 3,198 injuries, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

The numbers of accidents, deaths and injuries fell 27.8%, 8% and 38.3% respectively compared to the same period last year, said the committee.
Normally, road accidents made up 4,710 cases, causing 2,565 deaths and 3,192 injuries, correspondingly down by 27.9%, 8.06%, and 38.32%.
While most sectors reported decreases in the numbers of accidents, deaths and injuries, waterway transportation recorded increases.
Statistics show that there were 15 waterway accidents happening in the reviewed period, causing 12 deaths and 1 injury, up by 7.14% and 71.43%, only down by 50% in injuries.
Notably, the maritime sector reported zero accidents, while aviation continued to face technical failures and human-related incidents.
The decrease in all three criteria is attributed to localities’ efforts to strengthen traffic safety measures. Traffic police have intensified patrols and imposed stricter penalties for violations such as drunk driving, speeding, lane encroachment, and running red lights.
In addition, safety campaigns in the media, schools, and businesses have bene lunched to raise awareness among the public. Major cities have adopted intelligent traffic lights, reducing congestion and preventing collisions.
