Traffic accidents claim 40 lives in Lai Chau province
VOV.VN - There have been approximately 87 traffic accidents in northern Lai Chau Province this year to November 15, leaving 40 dead and more than 90 injured, damaging 80 automobiles and motorbikes with estimated property losses of nearly VND1.2 billion.
Major Do Tu Anh, deputy head of the Lai Chau Traffic Police Department, blamed the rise in traffic accidents on the increasing number vehicles on roads, especially individual cars and motorbikes, trucks, and particularly tractor-trailers transporting goods to Ma Lu Thang border gate.
Mr. Tu Anh said that to minimize traffic accidents, the provincial People’s Committee and Public Security Department have directed the relevant agencies to coordinate in ensuring traffic safety.
Traffic police have stepped up inspections and set up two checkpoints to assess vehicle safety before driving up or down the hill, said Mr. Tu Anh.
