Top 10 Vietnamese universities in SCImago Institution Rankings

Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City ranked 1,269th in the world, taking the lead among local institutions. It was followed by Duy Tan University which was placed 1,609th globally.

The third position among Vietnamese universities went to Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, 4,123rd globally, which also entered the list for the very first time.

The other Vietnamese institutions to make the top 5 were Nguyen Tat Thanh University in HCM City, 4,430th in the world, and Thu Dau Mot University in Binh Duong province, 4,712th in the world.

Two universities in Hanoi, including Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 4,744th globally, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, 5,407th globally, were placed sixth and ninth among the list, respectively.

The list also named University of Medicine and Pharmacy, HCM City, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, University of Economics HCM City.

SCImago is a research group from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Universities of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid), and Alcalá (Alcalá de Henares), who retrieve and analyse SCOPUS data using visualisation techniques. 

Since 2009, SCImago has assessed universities and other research-oriented institutions internationally. The purpose of the ranking is to provide a useful measurement tool for organisations, policymakers, and research managers to analyse, evaluate, and improve their research activities. 

This year’s rankings were based on three criteria, including Research Performance making up 50% of the total, Innovation Output making up 30% of the total, and Societal Impact making up 20% based on internet presence.
