Tien Giang endures sharp increase in cases of dengue fever
VOV.VN - The number of dengue fever cases occurring in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang over the course of the year has witnessed a dramatic increase, with approximately 1,600 cases recorded as of late August.
According statistics compiled by the provincial Department of Health, cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year have been reported in all districts, towns, and cities across the province. Most notably, the majority of cases have occured in the districts of Cai Be and Chau Thanh, in addition to the towns of Chau Thanh and Cai Lay.
Despite the widespread nature of the disease, no deaths have been reported and the number of cases has not increased compared to the same period last year, meaning Tien Giang is still ranked in fifth place in terms of the number of dengue fever cases in the Mekong Delta region.
At present, the province is in the midst of the peak season for the disease as a consequence of heavy downpours which serve to create favourable conditions in which mosquitoes can thrive and easily spread dengue fever.
Due to there currently being no specific treatment for the disease and vaccination options remaining limited, the most effective way to combat the spread of dengue fever is to take preventative measures.
The health sector therefore urges all local citizens to take effective environmental sanitation measures with the aim of eliminating mosquito larvae, in addition to spraying chemicals in a bid to further halt the spread of the disease.
