Thailand’s civil aviation sector has achieved the effective implementation of standards set by the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
He said that an ICAO inspection team had carried out a Full Coordinated Validation Mission on Thailand's civil aviation standards from 13 to 22 May 2019. Results of the inspection show that Thailand has achieved a score of 65.07 percent for its effective implementation of standards.
The score is higher than the minimum pass threshold of 60 percent set by ICAO. The ICAO team conducted the inspection on seven areas, namely rules and regulations, regulatory mechanism, officer authorization, airside operations, fleet airworthiness, flight services, and airport facilities.
The Prime Minister said that the aviation issue had been included in the national agenda and that the Government has tackled it in a systematic manner, while reforming the working system, relevant organizations, and legal matters. He thanked all people involved for their efforts to improve the country’s aviation sector. The Cabinet, during its meeting on 28 May 2019, also acknowledged the report on Thailand’s civil aviation.
ICAO issued Thailand a red flag in June 2015. Thailand was removed from the ICAO’s list of "red flags” on 6 October 2017.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lieutenant General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said that Thailand only scored 34.20 percent four years ago, when a red flag was issued against it. Two years later, Thailand’s score increased to 41.46 percent and to 65.07 in 2019.
He said that the ICAO commended Thailand for its progress in tackling aviation problems seriously and in a systematic manner.
