Thailand - Malaysia @ 60: A Concert of Harmony to be held in Kuala Lumpur

A free concert entitled “Thailand - Malaysia @ 60: A Concert of Harmony” will take place on Thursday, 20th July 2017 at 20.30 hr at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman Hall, Malaysia Tourism Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Participants will explore major aspects of the relationship between the Thai and Malaysian cultures through musical and cultural performances by well-known singers from both societies: Gai Anchuleeon, Patcha AF, Mutmee Pimdao, and Ton Thanasit, from Thailand; and Ernie Zakri and Syamel, from Malaysia.

The Yala Youth Orchestra will also perform in this concert to represent Thai youth from the southern provinces of Thailand. The event also consists of exhibitions of popular OTOP products from Thailand’s South, such as products made from krajood (sedge), and Islamic clothing products, to be showcased on the same day.

“Malaysia and Thailand have had very close bilateral relations with a good level of understanding in various fields of mutual interest,” said Lieutenant General Sansern Kaewkumnerd, Royal Thai Government Spokesperson and Acting Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department. He also believed that bilateral relations between Thailand and Malaysia will be strengthened through “Thailand - Malaysia @ 60: A Concert of Harmony.”

The improvement in Thailand’s southern situation is one of the factors related to the increasing numbers of Malaysian tourists. According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the number of Malaysian tourists ranked second in international tourist arrivals in Thailand.

There are nine border trade checkpoints in the cluster of southern provinces that line the border with Malaysia; they include Sadao, Pedang Besar, and Ban Prakop in Songkhla; Buketa, Tak Bai, and Su-ngai Kolok in Narathiwat; Wang Prachan and Tammalang in Satun; and Betong in Yala.

The Sadao border pass in Songkhla province has at least 12,000 Malaysian tourists passing through daily.
