Texting campaign raises funds for drought, salinity-hit areas
A texting campaign to raise funds for people affected by drought and saline intrusion was launched at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 7.
To advocate the campaign, people can send the message “NC” to 1407 from now until June 5. Each contributes VND14,000 (US$0.62) to the fund.
Together with texting, people can directly support the fund at the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) headquarters at No.82, Nguyen Du street, Hanoi, or its representative office in the southern region at No.201, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
They can also send money to bank accounts 1240202005348 (VND), 1240202018198 (US$), and 1240202006862 (EUR) of the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development – Hanoi’s Hoang Mai branch.
Doan Van Thai, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the VRC Central Committee, pledged to use the collected money to provide clean water and water containers and support the livelihoods of those suffering drought and saltwater intrusion.
Earlier, the VRC called on its members and people nationwide to support people in the central, Central Highlands and Mekong Delta regions. More than VND11 billion (US$493,350) has been collected, of which the US Red Cross donated nearly VND4 billion to build water facilities for poor households in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.
