Tet celebrations held for Vietnamese expats in New York
VOV.VN - The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations and the Consulate of Vietnam in New York co-hosted a gathering in the United States on January 31 to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year (Tet) as Vietnam’s biggest traditional festival nears.
The Tet programme themed “Homeland Spring 2026” drew the participation of a large number of Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in New York and surrounding areas, as well as many US and international friends.
Ambassador Do Hung Viet, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, extended best wishes to all members of the Vietnamese community and friends who come to celebrate Tet together.
The Ambassador shared the country's socio-economic development over the past year, saying despite global complications, Vietnam continued to record many sound achievements and make solid progress in all aspects both domestically and internationally.
The success of the 14th National Party Congress further strengthened public confidence to further promote the ongoing reform process and sustainable development in a new era, bringing the country to an increasingly higher position on the international stage, he noted.
Viet affirmed that the Vietnamese community abroad, including those in New York and the surrounding areas, is an inseparable part of the fatherland. He also expressed his hope that future generations of Vietnamese people would continue to preserve their national cultural identity, maintain close ties, support each other, and make positive contributions to the development of their homeland, while also helping to strengthen and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the US.
Participants at the event were given the chance to enjoy the traditional Vietnamese cuisine, as well as musical performances staged by Vietnamese artists, students, and members of the Association of Vietnamese diplomatic representatives’ spouses in New York.
