Swiss watches with Vietnamese flag, archipelagos on sale

Swiss company Candino has created 1,888 watches, with images of Vietnam's flag, map, and Hoang Sa (Spratly) and Truong Sa (Paracel) archipelagos, which are on sale in HCM City.

The watch’s dial is decorated with the phrase: “Hoang Sa &Truong Sa Belong to Vietnam". The reverse side of the watch is embellished with a carving of the map of Vietnam and two offshore archipelagos.

According to Bui Tan Minh, director of the Hai Minh Ex-Import Company, 1,888 such watches are being sold in Vietnam, as 1888 was the year that a wooden block printing mould was carved, which recorded the actions of the Nguyen dynasty's royal navy troops in the two archipelagos.

The wooden printing block is an important evidence of Vietnam's sovereignty over the two archipelagos.

At the product’s launch ceremony held in HCM City on Saturday, the Hai Minh Company gave VNÑ20 million (US$952) to the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper's fund for championing the country's sovereignty over the East Sea, which is named: “Chung Suc Bao Ve Chu Quyen Bien Dong” (Joining Hands to Protect Sovereignty over the East Sea).
