Strong winds and hail cause serious damage in northern provinces

VOV.VN - Over the past two days, a series of heavy hail showers accompanied by destructive whirlwinds have damaged houses and subsidiary crops across the northern mountainous provinces of Son La and Yen Bai.

According to the Moc Chau district Steering Board on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, on April 14 showers of hail and a spate of whirlwinds blew the roofs off of 20 houses and damaged more than 900ha of subsidiary crops.

The board mobilized forces to support local people in dealing with the consequences of the natural disasters so that they may restore production and stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

An outbreak of heavy rain and small tornados early in the morning of April 16 unroofed and destroyed 212 houses in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province with losses estimated at around VND200 million.

Soon after receiving the information, the district directed relevant forces to calculate the damage and help local people cope with the aftermath.

Yen Bai province has urged districts and towns to pay attention to developments in the weather to ensure an active response and implement measures to swiftly stabilize local people’s lives.
