Strong cold spell to hit northern region

A strong cold snap is forecast to hit the northern region from January 16.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting, many areas in the northern region including Hanoi would see heavy rains from the evening of January 15 and the temperature would fall to the lowest level of 12-15 degrees centigrade.

This weather would also affect the northern central and central regions, including Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, from January 16-18.

 Several northwestern mountainous localities have been predicted to experience the temperature of 8-11 degrees centigrade, even colder in high mountains.

 The cold spell is forecast to last until the weekend.
