Strong cold spell hits Vietnam, northerners fell bitter chill again

VOV.VN - A strong cold front is continuing to move southward on January 25, with its effects expected to intensify through the night, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

By the night of January 25, the cold front will begin hitting the Northeastern region of Vietnam, followed by the North Central and West Northwestern regions, then extending into the Central - Central region and parts of South Central region.

The Northeastern wind will strengthen, reaching 12 – 19kph inland and 20 – 28kph along coastal areas, with gusts up to 39 – 49kph in some places.

Due to the impact the cold air mass, temperatures in North and North Central regions will drop significantly to 9-12°C in the lowlands and 6-8°C in the highlands, or even below 3°C in some places.

Some mountainous areas are expected to experience extreme cold, with frost and the possibility of ice in higher elevations.

In the Central - Central region, the weather will turn cold starting from the night of January 26. Temperatures are anticipated to drop to 14-17°C from Quang Binh to Hue, and to 16-19°C from Da Nang to Quang Ngai.

In addition to the cold air front, from the night of January 25 to 26, the North and North Central regions will experience rain and scattered showers, with thunderstorms expected in some areas.

These weather conditions will add to the chilliness, potentially making it more challenging for outdoor activities and travel in these regions.
