Storm Linfa moves further inland, weakening into tropical depression

VOV.VN - Storm Linfa, the sixth to form in the East Sea this year, on the morning of October 11 made landfall in the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai and weakened into a tropical depression, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Over the next ten days, the central region should brace itself for two more tropical depressions that would bring more rains and resulting in more flooding. By the end of this year, around from four to six tropical depressions or storms are forecast to form in the East Sea and at least two would make landfall in Vietnam, meteorologists have said.

Since the middle of this week, the central region and some Central Highlands provinces have been hit by torrential rains, causing serious flooding. In some areas, many houses have been inundated nearly four meters under water. To date, at least nine people have died, and 11 are missing and more than 20,000 have been evacuated from their homes.
